The human figure: beautiful,
complex, mysterious, the most widely drawn, painted, photographed, and
sculpted subject in all of the arts. This course is an exploration
into the proportions, movements, and nuances of the human form.
With the use of live models, both nude and clothed, we will embark upon
the drawing and painting of the human anatomy, with a focus on geometric
shapes, proportion, foreshortening, texture, light and dark. We
will cover a variety of techniques, methods, and styles for the
observing and reproducing of every aspect of the human body, including
the head, body, hands and feet in a broad variety of poses, postures,
and positions. Employing a range of techniques, such as contour,
"blind-contour" (a favorite warm-up tool for Leonardo da Vinci), and
gesture drawing, we will learn how to measure the model, establish body
and facial proportions, and interpret skeletal and muscle structure.
The function and use of proper tools and materials will also be covered,
including pencils, charcoals, crayons, watercolor, oil paints, paper,
and other essentials. This course is intended for more advanced
students who have completed or have the equivalent skills covered in
Drawing and Painting Part One.
