Positive Psychology: The Science of Being Happy

Christine is a mental health counselor based in Shanghai, China providing counseling services to individuals, couples, and families.  She works with both adults and children to fully realize the best possible versions of themselves so that they are able to lead satisfying, balanced lives.  Christine works with individuals, couples, and families who are dealing with anxiety, depression, academic or behavioral deficiencies, grief, self-esteem and identity issues, substance abuse, infidelity, divorce, anger management, stress, and transition-related issues.  She has had a variety of professional experiences which include counseling at a residential substance abuse recovery center, conducting in-home bereavement hospice counseling, counseling at a university student center, counseling at a hospital outpatient center, and counseling on a crisis hotline.  She has also worked with children in a variety of settings from summer camps to study abroad programs to schools.  Christine has an MS in counseling and human development from Radford University in the United States and a BS in Psychology from Virginia Tech.  She has completed specialized trainings in suicide intervention and strengths counseling.  She is also a certified American Red Cross Disaster Mental Health Worker.  The primary methods which inform Christine's counseling are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and the postmodern approaches of Narrative and Strengths and Structural therapies; however, she recognizes the importance of tailoring her approach to the individual needs and challenges of each client.  She performs a thorough needs and goals assessment with her clients in order to collaborate with each individual to develop methods for coping and creating balance in their lives.  Christine arrived in Shanghai in 2009 and is currently a member of the Shanghai International Mental Health Association.  In her free time she enjoys writing and learning about the art of photography.
