Introduction to Psychology


Laura De Pretto holds a master's degree in psychology from the University of Urbino and is currently pursuing her PhD in psychology at East China Normal University.  She has also earned a diploma in Human Resources Management from Helyos Management School in Rome and brings ten years of experience as a scholar (beginning her studies in 1999), lecturer, published author, and seasoned professional into her work here at the Expat Learning Center.  Laura's interest in transcultural pychology (the psychology of intercultural relations) has transported her accross several continents and a broad variety of study, research, and teaching opportunities, including stints at the University of Portsmouth in the UK as well as Southern Connecticut State University in the U.S..  Laura has taught classes ranging from 'the Social Psychology of Personality' to the 'Psychology of Art' at the University of Urbino, after which time she served for two years at the renowned ProgettoMondo Mlal, a non governmental organization for national and international voluntary service, in Verona, Italy, which administers over 40 cooperation and development projects in South America and Africa.  Laura has also taught and conducted research at the University of Verona and the University of Urbino, where she lectured in Social Psychology for two different departments.  She has published numerous scholarly articles in scientific journals, delivered lectures, seminars, and conference presentations, organized a national workshop on "Intersubjectivity, Identity and Culture", and translated several academic books in the field of social psychology.  Ms. De Pretto is an active member of the Psychologists' registry of the Veneto region of Italy and a passionate, caring, and vibrant teacher.
