Milche Ivanoski
Applied Interior Design
Australian designer Milche (pronounced "Milch") brings a uniquely
down-to-earth perspective into both his projects and his classes -- not
surprisingly, considering his progression into the field from skilled
laborer, craftsman, and artisan to designer, interior architect, and
general contractor. His colorful journey began on giant
earth-moving machines many years ago as an excavator, concreter, paver,
and stone mason focused on pool and spa installation and landscape
design. Gradually, he worked his way indoors, as a craftsman
laying floors and fabricating walls, and later taking on full-scale
bathroom renovation, kitchen installation, furniture construction, and
all aspects of residential renovation (excluding electrical and
plumbing). At MIStyle Company, Ltd., Milche undertook a broader
spectrum of responsibilities and job titles, including concept
design/development and project management of high-end retail stores, CAD
documentation, team leader, account management, quality control,
building-site management, design management and implementation, contract
and quote preparation, liaising with clients and building contractors,
presentations, and sourcing factories and materials. Milche
alternately holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Interior
Design from Australia's Capital University and has worked as a builder
on such large-scale projects as the Canberra Airport upgrade and the
Canberra Center Facade Development. His intimate involvement with
every facet of construction and renovation affords him the unique
ability to speak the language of both the designer and the builder, an
enviable position when liaising with construction companies and
subcontractors. Upon his arrival in China in 2004, Milche went to
work for JinGu Real Estate Developers as a senior interior designer and
building consultant in charge of project management, CAD documentation,
presentations, concept design, material selection, staff recruitment and
training, implementation of the ISO9001 work system, color consultancy,
department coordination, research and development, public relations, and
the leading of design teams on projects including luxury villas, middle-
to high-end residential structures, recreation centers, shopping malls,
childcare centers, large-scale parks and landscaping projects, and more.
Following this, Milche taught interior design at Raffles College for two
years and currently runs his own interior design company, Ethos Design,
in Shanghai with his partner, a local civil engineer. They have
built up an impressive client list, having contributed to projects for
Diesel Jeans, Dolce and Gabbana, Crocs Shoes, Lacoste, Hugo Boss, Marni,
and others. Their key account is Crocs Shoes, for whom he and a
staff of five have managed from concept to finish the design and
construction of over 300 retail locations, including a series of Beijing
Olympic events stores. Milche currently oversees every facet of
the business; to say that he is a hands-on interior designer is an
understatement. He is also a very approachable, warm, and
empathetic teacher, and we feel privileged to welcome him to the ELC
team.
