Robb Ross
Kamma Cordeiro

Practical English for Everyday Use

For the past eleven years, Robb Ross has effectively dedicated his life to intercultural communication, TEFL, and teacher training.  He has been a featured lecturer at the prominent AsiaTEFL Conference on topics such as "Language as Culture" and "The Globalization of TEFL Learning Materials."  He is also a well-known television actor and radio personality in South Korea, where he starred in such popular English-language learning programs as Come on Kids and English for Young Learners.  Robb holds a bachelor's degree in English literature from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver and a Master's degree in TESOL from the University of Edinburgh.  For the past eight years, Robb has taught at language schools and universities in South Korea, the Czech Republic, and the UK, spanning nearly every level and type of EFL, from toddlers to graduate students and corporate executives, with specialties in English for academic purposes (EAP) and teacher training (TESOL).  Robb has designed and taught TESOL courses at South Korea's premier foreign language university, which included TESOL methodology, culture and pragmatics, and materials development.  He has published articles in the academic journal English Language Teaching, including "Cultural Awareness in EFL Instruction: Rationale and Suggestions for Implementation."  Robb is an active member of the Korean Association of Teachers of English (KATE) and the Pan-Korea English Teachers Association (PKETA).  His research interests are centered on cross-cultural communication and the implications of the emergence of English as an international language within EFL teaching and learning contexts.  Integral to his research is the exploration of how materials and lessons can better address the needs of culture-specific language learners toward fostering their ability to communicate more successfully.

A great lover of languages, Kamma Cordeiro has traveled the world absorbing as many as possible.  Fluent in English, Mandarin, and German, she also speaks some Japanese, Hawaiian, Cantonese, and Korean.  For the past ten years, she has dedicated her life to teaching English as a foreign language in a variety of learning environments here in China.  An accomplished singer and musician, a voracious reader, and a 'fantastic cook', Kamma brings a warmth and richness into her course that infuse it with the color and humor of real life.  Her teaching style is based on her own personal odyssey through the world of foreign languages, fully understanding the challenges and struggles that her students face.

After graduating from the University of Hawaii with a bachelor's degree in German language and literature, Kamma taught third grade in the Hawaiian public school system for two years before moving to China and earning her TEFL qualification.  She then taught for two years at Little Harvard International Preschool in Dalian, serving as lead teacher in charge of curriculum development and instructor recruitment.  Later, at Dalian University of Technology, Kamma taught junior and senior engineering students for one academic year, while concurrently teaching at the attached preschool, where she designed and developed the English-language curriculum for the Chinese teaching staff.  More recently, Kamma has spent two years teaching three-to-six year olds at Shanghai Melody Preschool, where she has successfully integrated music, dance, singing, and art into her lesson plans, thereby earning numerous awards and resulting in her being responsible for the training of newly-hired teachers to work in kindergartens around Shanghai.  Kamma has years of experience working with individuals with learning challenges, and she specializes in assimilating special-needs groups into a more mainstream and inclusive learning environment.  Her innovative pedagogical techniques have consistently resulted in schools exceeding their semester goals for language acquisition.  Kamma's warm and playful style and her wonderful passion for languages create a special learning place where students feel empowered to reach for new heights.
