Samantha Lim
The Art of Jewelry Making
Born and raised in Singapore, Samantha Lim obtained her bachelor's
degree at Curtin University of Technology in Western Australia before
pursuing a career in marketing and business development. After a
fifteen-year career and while serving in a senior-management position,
something magical happened. Samantha resigned her position in a
large multi-national telecommunications firm to pursue her true passion
in life, jewelry design. Her first international exposure was
achieved in 2003, when her white-gold and diamond brooch design, "The
Sea of Love" was selected as the finalist in The 8th Samshin International Diamond Jewelry Design Awards.
This event marked the beginning of Samantha's fascinating entry into
the world of custom and hand-crafted jewelry-design, where she has
trained and worked in a variety of studios, including an intensive
five-year apprenticeship under renowned international jewelry designer,
Sanae Asayama. It was at Studio Sanae that Samantha learned the
secrets of the trade and started designing small collections of her own
using precious stones, predominately focusing on Burmese jade.
She later studied at the Jewellery Design and Management International
School of Singapore (JDMIS), where she honed her craft and
developed a unique voice and artistic sensibility all her own.
Samantha draws her inspirations from the world around her. Her
love for bold scale and organic designs with sweeping overtones from
Mother Nature is clearly demonstrated in her work. Sketchbook
ever at hand, Samantha has summed up her philosophy in the following
statement: "Nature has so much to offer. Everywhere I look, there
is always a beautiful piece of jewelry waiting to be captured on
paper." Besides creating her designs from precious metals and
stones, Samantha also hand crafts jewelry using exotic but
readily-available materials that have been collected throughout her
world travels and are normally encountered in everyday life.
Samantha's jewelry is sold and showcased around the world. Her
works are currently on display at the Shangri-La Hotel (both Pudong and
Hong Kong), Xintiandi (Shanghai and Wuhan), at the Royal Ontario Museum
in Canada, and at the Shiozawa Gallery in Tokyo, Japan
(annually). In the United States, her works can be found at BK
Collections in Los Altos, California. Samantha is a colorful and
engaging instructor who loves to share her greatest passion with her
students from around the world.
