Sawako Nakayasu

Poetry Writing
Sawako Nakayasu holds a master's degree in poetry from Brown University
as well as two bachelor's degrees in writing and musical composition
from the University of California at San Diego. She
has lived
in Paris as well as Tokyo, and now spends her time divided between
Shanghai and America - where she has taught creative writing and poetry
classes at UC San Diego, Bard College, Brown University, and Naropa
University.
Sawako is a
celebrated author of poetry, prose, and performance text, with two
published books of poetry, two forthcoming books, and numerous works of
both poetry and prose published in a variety of journals and
anthologies. She has translated the work of Takashi Hiraide, Chika
Sagawa, Kyong-Mi Park, and many others for publication in a diverse
range of US journals, chapbooks, and anthologies. She is also the
recipient of grants from the NEA and PEN, as well as other awards and
fellowships for her lifetime work in literature.
