This course is a continuation of The
Art of Photography Part I, starting where that course leaves off and
continuing the exploration of the technical and creative aspects of
photography in greater depth. We will combine field and classroom
sessions to hone students' technique and style toward developing their
own natural photographic aesthetic. Throughout the course of the
ten weeks, students will work closely with instructors to develop three
separate projects. This course is intended for the more-serious
photography student who is able to set aside a minimum of two to three
hours per week for homework assignments. The following topics will
also be covered:
-
Four practical field sessions -
Two Photoshop for photographer
sessions -
Individual critique -
One studio lighting session -
Exploration of different genres –
documentary, travel, street, portraiture, studio, etc.

What kind of assistance and special
effects can you expect from your flash, outdoor, indoor and at night?
How can you paint your picture with light? How do we execute
multi-exposure shots? What is the use of a 1/4000 shutter speed?
What is the use of B pose? How can we achieve amazing shots in total
darkness? What is the appropriate way to set up and configure your
camera to fit the circumstances at hand? How do you direct your
model properly in each situation to reach the perfection of a "movie
style" portrait shot? In this course, you will get all the answer
you are looking for and learn the practical techniques needed to reach
the most-extreme capabilities of your camera, from the lowest shutter
speed to the highest, from total darkness to the brightest spot.
You will also learn how to master lighting by exploring your flash
function and playing with different sources of light to get better
results in any conditions. Last but not least, you will learn how
to extend your creativity to an unlimited level, by mastering shutter
speed, darkness, lighting, and composition. The following areas
will be covered:
-
Flash use: fill in, low speed,
repeating shots
-
Shooting models in the studio with flash -
Total darkness shots (painting
your picture with flash and light), one-minute pose project -
High speed shots... freeze water
without ice with your highest shutter speed -
Movie lighting secrets: take great
portraits by mastering Hollywood lighting techniques -
Photoshop: the basics of unlimited
creativity using layers, blending, and filters
-
Outings: we will have at-least
four outings in the field in order to apply the skills that are
being learned in class.
