These are not our grandparent's rhymes, nor are they the stuff of hallmark cards.  But, if you are passionate about language in all its infinite variety, we invite you to come and experience – by actively reading and writing poetry – a journey into some alternative, imaginative, and unexpected uses for words, phrases, utterances, and exclamations of every sort and manner.  Let's discover together how poetry can inhabit all of these ideas, and vice versa.  Through in-class and take-home exercises, we will explore various sources of poetry – engaging your own memory, consciousness, perception, and attention – while developing the craft and skills to express yourself in a unique and authentic voice.  We will "make the familiar strange," play surrealist games, take haiku walks, work with Oulipo constraints, rewrite/recaption manga, movies, and other media, practice experimental readings, and much more.  For all levels, ages, and sensibilities.
