RAW Workshop
Intensive Workshop (suitable for beginner to intermediate students)
Taught by Brad Westphal and Sharron Lovell.
Click here for Brad and Sharron's profiles and examples of their work.

RAW format used to be limited to high-end digital SLR cameras.  Today RAW is included on even the simplest point-and-shoot cameras and photographers of all levels can take advantage of its greater editing flexibility.  Our camera RAW one-day workshop is the place to start.  Instructors Sharron and Brad start at the beginning, explaining exactly what RAW is and how photographers can make use of it.  Our RAW workshop is aimed to help you to develop a basic RAW workflow that will help you achieve optimum image quality from your digital camera.  We will be describing the pros and cons of JPEG + RAW capture and when you might want to work in them.  It is not a highly technical workshop and aims to give you the practical rather than theoretical knowledge and application of camera RAW capture and editing.

  • Learn some of the benefits of using Camera RAW over JPEG format.

  • Learn how to find and open RAW files in your chosen software.

  • Explore some basic aspects of a RAW image processing: using levels, editing multiple images, and using auto adjustments.

  • Do a photo shoot and explore/experiment with Camera RAW features.

  • Learn how to create a monochromatic image in Camera RAW.

  • Correct white balance, using Camera RAW Temperature and Tint sliders and the White Balance dropper.

  • Learn how to adjust multiple files concurrently.

  • Show before and after photos and comment on your process.

To take this course you will need to own and have basic experience with a digital camera that shoots RAW and have basic experience with Adobe Photoshop or equivalent digital imaging program.  You also will need suitable software and a laptop.  If you have any questions about software you can communicate with the instructors beforehand for guidance.
